What is Invisalign®?

Essentially, Invisalign® is a discreet, hassle-free, and clinically proven way to straighten your teeth.

It involves no wires or brackets and none of the disadvantages of traditional braces. You’ll simply need to wear a series of clear aligners – which apply the right force, in the right place, at the right time – to gradually move your teeth into the desired position and achieve a straighter smile.

Each clear aligner is trimmed to your gum line, ensuring maximum comfort and a natural appearance.
Unlike fixed braces, Invisalign clear braces can be removed for eating, drinking, brushing and flossing. And as they’re fully transparent, they have very little impact on your daily life. Nobody will even know they’re there!

How does Invisalign® work?

Just like fixed braces with metal brackets and wires, Invisalign® braces work by putting pressure on your teeth in a carefully planned way. To achieve better alignment, just three simple steps are required:

Step 1 – Visit the practice for an initial consultation

As experts in orthodontics, we’ll examine your smile and establish exactly what you’re looking to achieve.

If Invisalign® is right for you, we’ll then take a fast and precise 3D scan of your teeth and create a customised treatment plan – which maps out the path from your first aligner to your dream smile.

Step 2 – Wear your aligners

The 3D scans are used to create a set of custom-made aligners, perfectly tailored to your mouth and existing teeth.

Each aligner is typically worn for 2 weeks before it’s swapped for the next in the series. To ensure your treatment plan stays on track, you’ll need to wear them for at least 22 hours a day – removing them only to eat, drink or brush your teeth. And check-ups will be required every 6-8 weeks.

The number of aligners in the series varies from person to person, ranging from as little as 10 to 50 depending on the severity of the case. But on average, teeth straightening treatment takes approximately 6 months.

Step 3 – Maintain your straight smile

Following Invisalign treatment, our dentist usually recommends wearing ‘Vivera retainers’ whilst you sleep. These are also custom-made and will help to maintain your new straighter smile long-term.

Is Invisalign treatment painful?

Here at Kiln Lane, we’d like to assure anyone considering Invisalign braces St Helens that the treatment isn’t painful.

It’s not uncommon for patients to experience some discomfort in the first week of treatment, with the edges of your aligners rubbing against your gums and cheeks as you get used to them in your mouth. However, it should improve with time.

When you change your Invisalign® aligners, you may experience sore gums, but this usually subsides within a few days. Painkillers and rinsing your mouth with salt water can help to soothe the gums whilst your teeth are gradually moving.
