How to keep your teeth white at Christmas

Discover our clever tips on how to keep your teeth white over the festive season.

Dreaming of a white Christmas?

Whilst snow isn’t very likely, a dreamy white smile is definitely achievable!

Christmas is a time for overindulgence and, there’s no denying, festive treats can have a huge impact on the health and appearance of your teeth. But by following our tips, it’s possible to minimise the impact of celebrations on your smile and make your perfect white Christmas come true.

3 tips to maintain a white smile this Christmas

1. Choose your treats wisely

Nobody wants to be a kill-joy – and we’re not going to tell you to avoid your favourite festive foods and drinks. It’s been a tough year, after all, and everyone deserves a treat. But if you wish to keep your teeth as white as possible, there are a few culprits that you should try to enjoy in moderation.

For example, mulled red wine. Full of sugar and renowned for staining, this is right at the top of the ‘naughty list’. So, why not switch it out for white wine or a light spirit instead? That way, you can still be merry and enjoy a little tipple, whilst also minimising the negative effects on your teeth.

To maintain a white sparkly smile, you should also think carefully about how many sweets and toffees you’re eating (particularly candy canes!), as well as chocolates, dried and citrus fruits.

2. Up your brushing and flossing game

The general rule is to brush and floss twice a day. Everybody knows that. But over the festive period, it may be worth upping the ante. The chances are, you’ll be eating rich food a lot more than usual and potentially grazing on different snacks and treats throughout the day. So, perhaps schedule in a third brush and flossing session around lunchtime? Or try to clean your teeth after every meal?

If you haven’t got one already, an electric toothbrush is also a great idea to add to your wish list. Most models will time you for two minutes (i.e. the optimum amount of time) and will apply the perfect level of pressure. As such, they make it much easier to achieve a thorough clean and maintain a white smile.

3. Invest in a teeth whitening treatment

‘Tis the season of gift-giving – so why not treat yourself and pop a little ‘home whitening kit’ under the Christmas tree? These kits have become hugely popular over the last couple of years. Not only are they a convenient way to keep your teeth white,  the results are incredibly impressive.

Here at Kiln Lane Dental, we currently offer two options: Blanc One and Bespoke Home Teeth Whitening Kits – both of which can improve the appearance of your teeth in just 1-2 weeks.

Alternatively, you could book yourself in for a post-festive in-house treatment. Both Zoom Whitening and Enlighten are now available at our surgery. Make your appointment now, enjoy a care-free Christmas full of your favourite treats, then restore your sparkly smile for as little as £395.
